During the summer, I have gathered a body of work to create
a starting point for my final year practice. We were told to produce boards
from our visual research. These boards will become a visual learning agreement
for the next few weeks, where I will develop a body of samples and further my
practice.
I decided to merge my inspiration
and concept into one board as at the time I had not fully identified my
concept. I take great attention to solid lines, and was specifically inspired
by the pink grid, which was printed onto a set of windows in Kings Cross. This
led me to explore grids further, and I pushed this through my drawing and
collage, focusing on the contrast of the harsh lines against the soft tears of
paper. Moving forward in terms of concept, I have begun to research
into Brutalist Architecture, as I plan to create my samples from concrete. The buildings
have an emphasis on material, texture, construction and form. All of which
interest me and will be carried throughout my sampling.
For Media and
processes I plan to use the casting skills I gained from my summer
experience with Sophie Mahon. I’d like to create concrete blocks, with added
materials such as coloured resin and plaster. I want there to be a contrast
with the bright materials against the bleak concrete. Both the contents of the
blocks and the blocks themselves will represent key details of my drawing. The
photograph of the pavement creates key interest as that specific material can
be so free yet confined into specific shapes.
I plan to work towards an interior context, however am unsure of the purpose they hold. I still
however want my usual art gallery context to be present. Instead of them having
a specific use like Studuo Twocan, they could be displayed around the house as
decorative home pieces. Suggesting that every piece will be unique.
